The close reading of Elie Wiesel's "Perils of Indifference" focuses on the main idea of his speech and the use of rhetorical appeals to persuade the audience to agree with his focus. Day 1 focuses on the main idea, Days 2-4 address ethos, pathos, and logos, and the final day will focus on a culminating writing activity. Special Materials: Students will need a copy of the anchor text, "The Perils of Indifference." Wiesel's speech begins at 14:00 on the YouTube video. (Please note that the video is longer than 9 minutes.)
