This lesson focuses on identifying the author's purpose and motivation within the anchor text, "Small Solution, Big Change" by Cameron Keady, from Time for Kids. The day begins with a teacher read aloud of the given sections of the text (paragraphs #2- 3). Students are then asked to engage in close reading of this section as well. Students will complete a guided notes sheet to capture their thinking concerning the supporting questions from the lesson. After a whole group discussion about the author's purpose presented in the selected section of the text, the focus question should be completed independently. This series of close reading lesson plans was created by a member of the 2015 Delaware Dream Team. Special Materials: Students will need: 1) A copy of the anchor text 2) A highlighter 3) A copy of guided student notes
