This lesson focuses on identifying cause and effect relationships within the anchor text, "Small Solution, Big Change" by Cameron Keady, from Time for Kids. The day begins with a teacher read aloud of the given sections of the text (paragraphs #3 - 6). Students are then asked to engage in close reading of this section as well. Students will complete a guided notes sheet to capture their thinking concerning the supporting questions from the lesson. After a whole group discussion about the cause and effect of water pollution presented in the anchored text, the focus question should be completed independently.
This series of close reading lesson plans was created by a member of the 2015 Delaware Dream Team.
