The purpose of the culminating writing task is for students to determine how the theme of the poem is reflected in the author’s development of mood and how the author uses descriptive language to convey the mood. The focus questions are designed to direct the students' thinking by guiding them to analyze the setting, text structure, figurative language, moods, and theme, and use this information to discover the ways in which the moods and theme of the poem are interwoven. Special Materials: Students will need a copy of the anchor text.
