Students read and summarize the first two scenes of Act I of The Tragedy of Macbeth by William Shakespeare.

Additional Notes:

  • Prior to teaching this lesson, construct a large (five-six feet) plot diagram on the classroom wall with tape. Label each part of the plot diagram: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution. Alternatively, use butcher (bulletin board) paper to draw the plot diagram out and make a separate diagram for each individual class. This diagram will need to be visible, for each class, throughout the unit. See an example in the additional materials.
