Day 1 of this close reading module focuses on helping students understand the who, what, when, and where of the text. Students will read John Snow's embedded notes from 1854 to discover what he was trying to achieve in his investigation. Students will continue analyzing John Snow's map from 1854 London that was used in his investigation. Students will then identify the sequence of events in the text that lead to the end of the 1854 epidemic. Finally, students will focus on vocabulary used by the author to interpret how people viewed John Snow's work. This series of close reading lesson plans was created by a member of the 2015 Delaware Dream Team. Special Materials: Students will need a copy of the anchor text. Paragraphs should be numbered.
