This lesson builds on students’ work with unit rates and writing rate equations. In this task, students evaluate cell phone payment plans by finding the unit rate and representing rates as equations. This builds toward representing proportional relationships by equations, constructing simple equations to solve problems, and computing with rational numbers. Big Ideas: Quantities in a rate have a proportional relationship and can be represented as an equation. Unit rates can be used to compare rates. Vocabulary: equation, unit rate
