 Inflection Match-Up

Teacher Preparation:

  • Teacher assigns or prepares to display the activity.

Procedure:

  1. Teacher models the activity by dragging one base word (e.g., “soft”) and one ending (e.g., “ly”).
  2. Teacher reads aloud the word that is created (e.g., “softly”), noting whether it is a real word or a nonsense word.
  3. Teacher explains that students should try each ending with each base word as time allows. If the word is a real word, students should leave the word in the table. If the word is a nonsense word, the word should be removed.
  4. Students begin.

  • Students can type the words below or write the words on paper.
