Students analyze chapters 5 and 6 of The Great Gatsby to determine how Fitzgerald uses symbols and pacing to develop a theme in the novel.  Students work in groups to mark symbols and shifts in time in the text and then write a response that analyzes the use of symbolism and pacing to develop a theme in the novel.
