2M2 C12 L57 Sound Sort: soft g/hard g (Full Alphabetic)

Sound Sort

Teacher Preparation:

  • Teacher assigns or prepares to display the activity.

Procedure:

  1. Teacher models the activity by choosing one picture, saying it aloud, and then dragging it into the hard /g/ or soft /g/ column of the T-chart.
  2. Teacher shows the students each image and tells the word for each (in case students are not sure what each picture represents; see notes below). Sounds can be found in the initial, middle, or final part of the word.
  3. Students look at each picture, say the word aloud and drag to the correct column.
    Teacher observes and helps students as needed.
  4. Repeat as time allows.

Images include: goat, glue, glass, gum, dragon, pig, gems, giraffe, orange, bride, engineer, cage
