 Blending Boxes

Teacher Preparation:

  • Teacher assigns or prepares to display the activity.

Procedure:

  1. Teacher demonstrates with the word “flop”:
    1. Teacher says each phoneme separately while dragging a chip into each box (/f/ /l/ /o/ /p/)
    2. Teacher blends phonemes together while dragging the mouse or sliding finger under boxes and says word
      aloud: “flop”
  2. Student repeats with words provided by teacher.
  3. Words can include any word with a blend (ex- "st-", "fl-", "sk-", "-nd"). Begin with blends that include continuants.
  4. Repeat as time allows.
