 Blending Boxes

Teacher Preparation:

  • Teacher assigns or prepares to display the activity.

Procedure:

  1. Teacher demonstrates with the word “met”:
    1. Teacher says each phoneme separately while dragging a chip into each box (/m/ /e/ /t/)
    2. Teacher blends phonemes together while dragging the mouse or sliding finger under boxes and says word
      aloud: “met”
  2. Student repeats with words provided by teacher.
  3. Words can include: can, pet, tin, got, fun (any CVC word).
  4. Repeat as time allows.

Extension:

  • Use 4 box sound board with words that could include "l" blends (bl, cl, fl, gl, pl, sl, sp).
  • Words could include: blot, club, flit, glad, pled, slug, spot
