KM2 C9 L46 More Initial Sounds Sort (all phases)

More Initial Sounds Sort

Teacher Preparation:

  • Teacher assigns or prepares to display the activity.

Procedure:

  1. Teacher models the activity by choosing one picture, saying it aloud, enunciating the initial or final sound and then dragging it into the /q/, /u/ or ending /x/ column.
  2. Teacher shows the students each image and tells the word for each (in case students are not sure what each picture represents; see notes below)
  3. Students look at each picture, say the word aloud and drag to the correct column.
    Students should be able to tell the teacher why they placed each picture in each column. Teacher observes and helps students as needed.
  4. Repeat as time allows.

Images include: fox, umbrella, quail, quiz, quotation, quiet, quill, unlock, usher, upside-down, underwater, t-rex, ax, sax, wax
