KM2 C5 L26 More Initial Sound Sorts (Pre-Alphabetic and Early Partial Alphabetic)

More Initial Sounds Sort

Teacher Preparation:

  • Teacher assigns or prepares to display the activity.

Procedure:

  1. Teacher models the activity by choosing one picture, saying it aloud, enunciating the beginning sound and then dragging it into the /s/ or /v/ column in the T-chart.
  2. Teacher shows the students each image and tells the word for each (in case students are not sure what each picture represents; see notes below)
  3. Students look at each picture, say the word aloud and drag to the correct column.
    Students should be able to tell the teacher why they placed each picture in each column. Teacher observes and helps students as needed.
  4. Repeat as time allows.

Images include: snake, vulture, volcano, vacuum, vet, volleyball, vine, visor, submarine, scissors, six, star, sand, salad
