Big Ideas: Only one unique triangle can be formed when given three side measures. Triangles with specific side lengths can be created by using a compass. Students have learned the properties of triangles and how to classify triangles based on both their sides and angles. Students will be creating a scalene triangle, then will have to try to create another triangle with the same side lengths. Through this experiment students will understand, given three side measures, only one unique triangle can be created. Students will then work to create triangles when given three side measurements. Vocabulary: Triangle Inequality Theorem, acute, obtuse, right, scalene, isosceles, and equilateral triangles Special Materials: Rulers and compasses
