This lesson builds on Day 1’s question by having students revisit their conclusions about the central ideas. It then asks them to delve deeper into them by drawing a clear line between solitude and loneliness from Thoreau's perspective and connecting that relationship with Nature. This step is necessary before students have to consider Thoreau's purpose in writing this chapter of Walden, which will happen on Day 4. Special Materials: Students each need a copy of the text and the student notes sheet.
