This lesson focuses on determining the main idea of the entire article. Text features to be focused on include sections organized by headings and bold print vocabulary. By determining the main idea and supporting details of each section, students will be able to identify the main idea of the article as a whole. To begin, partners reread the introduction of the text and think about what the topic of the article is. Then, students work in a guided group or with a partner to answer the supporting questions. Lastly, students will answer the focus question independently. Special Materials: Students will need the guided notes sheet and a copy of the anchor text.
