Big Ideas: The equation of a circle can prove or disprove if a point lies on a circle. This task encourages students to utilize their knowledge of a circle and its radius to generate a point that will lie on the circle. Students begin by determining if a particular point lies on a line. They will then discuss the differences between a true and false mathematical statement which will lead them to deciding whether or not a point lies on a circle. Students will then have to mathematically prove that the point lies on the circle.
