Big Ideas: Multiplication and division can both be represented using equal groups. In this lesson, students will develop an understanding of equal groups using multiplication. Students will examine four different scenarios and be asked to determine whether or not each scenario displays equal groups. They will also be required to solve the total number of each item in each of the four different scenarios. By the end of this lesson, students should have a conceptual understanding of equal groups and how multiplication can represent equal groups. Vocabulary: multiplication, multiply, equal groups Special Materials: none
