 Letter Roll Reading

Teacher Preparation:

  • Teacher assigns or prepares to display the activity.

Procedure:

  1. Teacher models the activity by choosing a consonant, vowel, and consonant, dragging each letter into a sound board found in the chart.
  2. Teacher blends each sound to determine if the arrangement produces a real word. If the arrangement does not produce a real word, the teacher tries another arrangement.
  3. Students then replicate the process. Students drag letters (CVC) into one sound board and blend each sound in the created word to determine if the arrangement produces a real word. If the arrangement does not produce a real word, the student tries another arrangement.
  4. The student records the real word on paper. (optional).
  5. Teacher observes and helps students as needed.
  6. Repeat as time allows.
  7. If student has been recording words on paper, he or she reads all of the words aloud. (optional)
