Today's lesson focuses on the day that Helen Keller met Anne Sullivan: a day she refers to as the "most important day" of her life. By seeing the value Helen puts on this relationship with her teacher, students understand how important being able to communicate was for her. This lesson’s questions emphasize first, understanding who Anne Sullivan was to Helen and then, exploring the impact Anne made in Helen's life. Students may work in small groups or pairs as they return to the text to explore these questions, capturing their thinking on the student guided notes sheet. The day's focus question should be completed independently. Special Materials: Students need their own copy of the text and a Student's Notes sheet.
