This lesson focuses on finding direct evidence in the text to develop an understanding of how and why the titular relationship between the dog and the cat came to be. The day begins with a rereading of the final portion of the text. Students are then asked to reread the final paragraphs before exploring the text-dependent questions. Students should use the text to answer these questions while capturing their thinking on the guided notes sheet. They may work with partners or in small groups to answer the questions.
