This lesson provides students an opportunity to look at some of the lines within the text that discuss family and tradition. This will help students determine reasons behind why Sayeed’s day is the way it is and his reasons for working hard each day. Through a read aloud, students gain familiarity with the text and search for evidence regarding Sayeed's family. This lesson's questions emphasize locating information about family life through a series of scaffolded questions that target the main body of the article. Students may work in small groups or partners as they return to the text to explore these questions, capturing their thinking on the student guided notes sheet. The focus question should be completed independently.
