Today students jump into the essential work of uncovering how Rooster and Mouse change in this story. They will talk about Rooster and Mouse's responses to events, citing evidence from the text, and how their responses change from the beginning to the end. Recounting these responses helps lead students to understanding the lesson Rooster and Mouse have learned, and recounting the story and naming the lesson are the required work of the culminating writing task. The student note pages can be collected at the end of the day and used as a formative assessment. Special Materials: Students should have access to the following materials: • Copies of anchor text for each student • Copies of the notes page for each student
