Red Hen’s behavior exemplifies the traits that Rooster and Mouse learn to admire and, after they learn a lesson, embody. Today, student will be directed to how the author uses repeated language to reveal these traits so that they can develop a vocabulary for them. It also gives students practice pulling evidence from the text to justify descriptions. These skills are essential to answering the culminating question and focus question 4. The student note pages can be collected at the end of the day and used as a formative assessment. Special Materials: Students should have access to the following materials for this lesson: • Copies of anchor text for each student • Copies of the notes page for each student
