Big Ideas: Numbers, expressions, and measures (for example lines and angles) can be compared by their relative values. Two- and three-dimensional objects with or without curved surfaces can be described, classified, and analyzed by their attributes (for example the size of their angles and sides). Objects in space can be oriented in an infinite number of ways, and an object’s location in space can be described quantitatively. Objects in space can be transformed in an infinite number of ways, and those transformations can be described and analyzed mathematically. Students will be able to demonstrate their understanding of translations by determining the coordinates of the image given the original coordinates and the translation and determining the translation given the coordinates of the pre- and post-images. Students will be able to explain why the image of a figure after translation is congruent to the pre-image by demonstrating that the side's lengths and angle measurements of the pre-image and image are congruent.
