Big Idea: We can use the properties of operations as strategies to help multiply or divide rational numbers. This lesson builds upon students' previous work with mathematical properties. In this task, students will find the change in a stock's value using the multiplication of integers, fractions, and mixed numbers. Students will be asked to complete their solutions in several different ways, and to use mathematical operations to explain and justify their work. The mathematical concepts in this lesson build toward students' future work with simplifying expressions and solving equations. Vocabulary: Distributive Property, Associative Property, Commutative Property Special Materials: None
