Big Ideas: When values are represented in different forms, it may be necessary to convert between these different forms to perform calculations and make comparisons. This lesson builds upon students’ previous work with fractions and decimals. This task invites students to attend a fair where they must purchase ride tickets. Students are given the price of a ticket and the number of tickets per ride, and they must find the combination of tickets that equals $25. Students must convert the numbers to the same form to do the calculations. The mathematical concepts in this lesson build towards students’ future work simplifying expressions and solving equations. Vocabulary: fractions, decimals Special Materials: None
