This lesson focuses on finding evidence in text, noting characters and their motivations, and examining some of the archaic language that makes "Rumpelstiltskin" a complex text. Today, the teacher reads aloud as students follow along on their copy. Next, students reread the first two paragraphs on their own, then they explore the text-dependent questions. Students may work with partners as they explore these questions while recording their answers on the student notes sheet. The focus question should be completed independently. Student responses to the focus question can be collected and used as a formative assessment to determine which students should watch the comprehension skill video.
