Connections between events and people are made through allusions in the text. Students will cite evidence to demonstrate how Rosa Parks was instrumental in changing the future of the country, including the election of Barack Obama. Students will focus on the author's purpose in order to determine these connections, as well as the author's perspective on leadership and civil duty. Special Materials: Students will need a copy of the text. Students will need a copy of the student notes.
