Big Ideas: Real-world and mathematical problems often involve hidden questions and multiple operations. Models can be used to represent and solve real-world problems. This lesson builds on students' work with solving real-world problems involving multiplying whole numbers and fractions. This task uses a brownie scenario to have students carefully read multiple step problems, looking for clues to determine whether there is a hidden question to solve before completing the problem. The mathematical concepts in this lesson build toward students' future work with solving multi-step problems with rational numbers. Vocabulary: hidden question, multiple steps
