This is lesson five of a five day close reading of the text, "Benjamin Franklin: Inventor, Printer, Writer." On this day, students complete a culminating writing task that requires them to explain how two main ideas are related using Benjamin Franklin's character traits and the ideas that were analyzed over the previous four days of close reading. This writing task serves as a summative assessment for the close reading as well as an assessment of students' writing. Allow students to use previous days' notes and their annotated text as a support when writing. Special Materials: Students should reference their annotated copy of the article and any notes that they have made in prior lessons to support their writing.
