This is lesson one of a five day close reading on the text, "Benjamin Franklin: Inventor, Printer, Writer." This lesson helps the reader understand the character of Benjamin Franklin. The work will allow students to understand multiple main ideas that they will later need to use in the culminating task on Day 5 when they explain how the two main ideas are related, using specific evidence from the text to support the main ideas. Special Materials: Students need to have a copy of the text and a pen or pencil. Teachers may choose to project the text using a document camera or overhead projector.
