Students complete a timed writing in response answering the prompt: Describe how either Mama or Maggie change as a result of Dee’s visit in “Everyday Use” and explain how this change develops the theme of the short story. This task allows students to express their understanding of the theme of legacy in the unit. It also helps prepare them for the Culminating Writing Task by drafting an essay.
