This lesson explores Alice's interactions with the Mouse in chapter 2, and how their exchanges shed more light on the social aspect of growing up. The Mouse is the first character in the text that actually responds to Alice's attempts at conversation. In addition, this lesson explores the symbolism of the garden, and why Alice is not able to get to the garden by the end of chapter 2. Special Materials: Students should have access to the following materials for this lesson: * Student guided notes sheet * Copies of the anchor text for all students
