Lesson 9: Analyzing How Claims are Refined by Details in a Text and Analyzing Details in a Text for Logos

Students read “Address to Congress on Women’s Suffrage” and analyze how the author uses words and phrases to develop and refine her claims. Students analyze the text specifically for details of logos.

  • Evidence Chart Completed

  • Blue highlighters

  • Audio recording of the text

  • Chart paper

Additional Notes:

  • Make an “annotation guide” anchor chart to display for the entire unit. Define ethos, logos, pathos, and include the appropriate highlighter colors: logos (blue), ethos (yellow), and pathos (pink)
