Lesson 4: Rhetorical Appeals- Ethos, Logos, and Pathos

In this lesson, students study the three rhetorical appeals: ethos, logos, and pathos with a non-print text and a deep vocabulary task. They revise their summaries, begun in lesson 1, one final time.

  • “Ethos, Logos, Pathos” by Krista Price Video (PureView Link on text access document)

  • Unit Graphic Organizer (Blank)

  • Unit Graphic Organizer (Completed)

  • Chart Paper

  • Summaries from previous day

  • Roots GO (Blank)

  • Roots GO (Completed)

  • OPTIONAL: Provide appropriate sample advertisements that use the appeals ethos, logos, and pathos

Additional Notes:

  • Make an “annotation guide” anchor chart to display for the entire unit. Define ethos, logos, pathos, and include the appropriate highlighter colors: logos (blue), ethos (yellow), and pathos (pink).
