Today's lesson picks up where Day 3 left off. Students move from their discovery that the poem takes place over an entire year toward understanding why this is significant. They will dig deeper into the character of the speaker, which sets them up for the final writing task on Day 5, enabling them to use the speaker's experience to determine the poem's central message. As on previous days, the focus question should be completed independently at the end of the lesson.
