In Day 3 of this close reading, we focus on how the stanzas build on each other to develop the poem's setting, which in turn informs the meaning of the poem. We will get to this meaning on Day 4, but in order for students to be successful then, they need this lesson first to teach them how to build connections across the stanzas. This lesson will also address several areas of tricky, archaic language and structure, providing you the opportunity to ensure that students fully understand these sections and can then use them as evidence to support their claims about the text. Because of this language component, this is a particularly good day to have the class work together to answer the supporting questions, rather than individually. At the end of the lesson, the focus question should be completed individually.
