The focus of this lesson is for students to learn how to use visualization to understand figurative language. Students will be looking closely at the author's deliberate word choices, and determining what the author's motives are for describing the action as he does. The day begins with students rereading the text as a whole class or with a partner. Prior to exploring the text dependent questions, students are then asked to reread while thinking about the emotions expressed in the poem. Students may work in small groups or with partners as they return to the text to explore these questions, capturing their thinking on the student guided notes sheet.
