Students will begin reading the short story, “To Build a Fire” by Jack London, which has similar ideas and themes about human-animal relationships and the wild. In this lesson, they will analyze the setting, examine how words and phrases establish tone and mood, and analyze what the character’s decisions reveal about his character.
