This lesson digs deeper into the central meaning of the poem, "The Fieldmouse." Students will build on the preliminary work they did on Day 1 to more fully understand the author's point of view, as well as how to distinguish it from their own. Students will explore how the author chose to convey this meaning by reading part of the text out loud. You may choose to continue having the class work together through the supporting questions, recording their own answers on the guided notes sheet, or they could work in pairs or small groups. The focus question should be completed independently. Special Materials: Each student should have a copy of the poem and the guided notes. You may still wish to project a large version of the text to facilitate group discussion. Today's lesson involves the students determining how they should read part of the poem out loud, so you may wish to have students work in pairs to facilitate this.
