Big Ideas: The mean and standard deviation of a data set with an approximately normal distribution can be used to predict intervals and population percentages. This lesson builds on students’ prior learning and knowledge of the empirical rule and its application to approximately normal distribution curves. In this lesson, students will have the opportunity to apply the empirical rule to a real-world problem in which they are asked to predict intervals and population percentages. Students will have the opportunity in future lessons to use technology to predict intervals and population percentages. Vocabulary: Mean, Standard deviation, Interval, Population percentage
