Big Ideas: Real world problems can be represented by various visual models and equations. This lesson builds on students' work with multiplying whole numbers and fractions, and solving real world problems. This task has students identify different solution paths for a given word problem. Students are asked to interpret word problems and decide which of the given models correctly represents those problems. If they find a model does not represent the situation given in the word problem, they must explain their reasons for excluding it. Additionally, students are required to write an equation to represent each word problem. The mathematical concepts in this lesson build toward students' future work with solving real world problems. Vocabulary: solution path
