About this lesson

Students will reread Throngs of people visit Lady Liberty as the Statue Reopens on July 4th adapted from The Los Angeles Times and watch the video What ‘Lady Liberty’ and Ellis Island Mean Today and write a multiparagraph essay to demonstrate an understanding of the texts.

Additional Note

Determine a method for getting students access to the digital text based on your individual situation. For example, students may go to a computer lab to access the text, or if you have 1-to-1 technology or a laptop cart, have students access the text in the classroom. Another option is to project the text and read it aloud as students follow along.
