This lesson requires students to analyze how Tom forms his plan to play hooky in response to his dread of going to school. The day begins with a shared reading of the selected section of the text for today's lesson. Students are then instructed to reread the text selection independently in preparation for answering the text-dependent questions related to this passage. Once they have read and annotated paragraph 2 independently, they will jot a short answer to the supporting questions on the student guided notes sheet. Finally, the students will answer the focus question independently.
