This lesson focuses on identifying the main topic with three supporting details in Chapter 2. The day begins with the students rereading the text in partners. Then students are asked to read Chapter 2 independently prior to exploring the text dependent questions. Students may work in small groups or partners as they return to the text to explore these questions, capturing their thinking on the student guided notes sheet. The focus question should be completed independently.
Special Materials:
Students will need the guided notes sheet with the main idea graphic organizer included. Students will also need copies of the anchor text.
