Lesson Objective: Use understanding of the meaning of unit rate as “How much for one?” and use multiplication and division strategies to complete tables of related values.
Students will reason with both the relationship between number of items, and within the cost per item, to practice finding and using unit rates as they reason up and down with costs and items.
Students engage in Mathematical Practice 2 as they reason quantitatively from the given rate to find other rates that maintain the proportional relationship. They also make use of structure (Mathematical Practice 7) as they apply their knowledge we can multiply two numbers by the same quantity to find a new pair of numbers with the same multiplicative relationship as the first pair.
