Lesson objective: Create and use ratio tables to identify quantities in a proportional relationship.

This lesson provides an opportunity for students to practice creating and using ratio tables. Ratio tables are used here because they support multiplicative reasoning while keeping the numbers in the ratio and their units organized. This work develops students' understanding that in a proportional relationship, as one quantity changes, the other changes in a way that maintains the multiplicative relationship.

Students engage in Mathematical Practice 2 (Reason abstractly and quantitatively) as they make sense of quantities and their relationships in a problem. Using a ratio table helps students to considering the units involved, attend to the meaning of quantities, and flexibly use different properties of operations to create an equivalent ratio.
