The purpose of this question is to identify the specific purpose of individual sections of a text and analyze how meaning is impacted. This focus question builds heavily on previous knowledge of the research and scaffolds student learning. The supporting questions ask the students to analyze the structure of the text in chunks, while the focus question is where they bring all of the ideas together. This lesson contributes to the understanding of the central ideas of the text.
